A
city girl and her fiancé are on the highway at night. They are
scheduled to get married in four days. Suddenly, her life is swung away
from the brocade and jewellery of marriage to the harsh brutality of
abduction. She is taken away by this group of rustic criminals. Her life
will never be the same again.
The same night, the gang is in panic. The girl is a big industrialist's daughter. His links in the corridors of power make ransom out of the question. They are doomed. But the leader of this group is adamant. For him sending her back is not an option. He will do whatever it takes to see this through.
Days pass. These are days of unbelievable horror for her. But, as the Tempo runs and miles turn, as the scenery changes, the light changes, the sun sets and rises and the air changes, she feels that she has changed as well.
Gradually, a strange bond begins to develop between the victim and the oppressor. It is in this captivity that she, for the first time in her life, feels free. But they are not made for each other. She does not want to return to where she came from. She does not want to reach where he is taking her. She wishes this journey to never end.
Maybe the Highway will not really change her; she will go on with her life like everyone else. Maybe this feeling is just a passing phase. Maybe not.

'Highway' stars Alia Bhatt, Randeep Hooda, Durgesh Kumar, Pradeep Nagar and Saharsh Kumar Shukla.
'When Imtiaz offered me the role, I was surprised. I've had no training
in acting at all, and that in a way proved an advantage. Imtiaz was able
to mould my personality in the way he wanted. So a lack of training
proved an advantage for the film,' Alia Bhatt told IANS.
In an interview with PTI, Alia said: “Imtiaz Ali is a very pure soul,
whether it is his intensity, dedication or passion towards his work,
everything is there. He is what he is, there is no fuss or anything
fake, that is what I love about him.”
''Highway' has helped me to evolve as a person and an actor. It
was...therapeutic! I felt so connected with the surroundings. It was
both physically and emotionally challenging,' remarked Alia Bhatt.
Actress Alia Bhatt turned singer with the lullaby 'Sooha Saha' in 'Highway'.
Talking about the experience, Alia said: 'It was unreal. I am a bathroom singer but to have the opportunity to sing a song composed by Rahman sir was unbelievable. This film is so close to my heart.'

'The unusual pairing is done for a reason. Randeep is a buddy and it was fun working with him,' said Alia.
In an interview with IANS, director Imtiaz Ali said: ''Highway' is a
relationship film on the roads. It's about when you travel you discover
more about the place you come from. 'Highway' is a discovery like that.'
'I had a story in my mind but we shot the film almost without a script. I
knew what the purpose of a particular scene was but I did not have
finished dialogues for it. So, these places influenced the script a lot.
I let the story be rather than imposing myself on it,' Imtiaz Ali told
IANS in an interview.
